SEC Gymnast of the Week – Florida’s Trinity Thomas, a junior from York, Pa., won four event titles in the season-opening win at preseason No. 14 Auburn. Thomas claimed her 15th all-around win at 39.750, which ranks as the nation’s highest all-around for 2021 and sets the Florida record for highest season-opening all-around total. She also took the top honors on vault (9.975) and floor (9.95) and claimed a share of first place on beam (9.95).
SEC Co-Specialists of the Week – Alabama’s Makarri Doggette, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, won two event titles in the season-opening win over No. 12 Kentucky. Doggette recorded a 9.925 on beam and a 9.90 on bars, earning a share of first place in both events. Her efforts helped lead the Crimson Tide to the second highest team score in the SEC and fourth in the nation last week.
Florida’s Nya Reed, a junior from Landover, Md., was runner-up in two events against Auburn. Reed posted a 9.90 on vault, equaling her collegiate best and tying for third in the national standings. She also earned a share of second place on floor with a 9.925, tying her for fourth place in the national standings.
SEC Freshman of the Week – LSU’s Haleigh Bryant, a freshman from Cornelius, N.C., made her debut in the PMAC in the win over preseason No. 15 Arkansas. Bryant tied for first place on vault with a 9.90 and finished fifth on bars with a 9.85. She later scored a 9.975 with her floor routine to become the 13th gymnast in school history to earn a 9.975 or higher in their debut season and the first with a 9.975 in their first meet.
